FAQs

Is there a fee to participate in TEC’s program?

The cost for the seven-week session is $280 ($40 per lesson) which must be paid in full prior to the first lesson. TEC charges a small percentage of the actual cost to offer riding lessons. The TEC Board of Directors fundraises year-round to make up the shortfall in the agencies budget.

Will my health insurance cover the cost of the sessions?

Unfortunately, it will not.

How do I register a rider?

Go to the home page of our website, print and complete the Rider Application including the physician’s referral.  Email it to Gerry Page or mail it to TEC at 537 Northampton Street, Holyoke, MA 01040. Once your application is received, you will be contacted to schedule your session.

What if I can’t make it to my lesson?

Call the Center at 413-532-1462 and leave a voicemail for your Instructor notifying them that you will not be attending. Please keep in mind that there are no refunds or credits if you cancel a lesson. TEC will give credit for any lesson cancelled by TEC.

How long are the sessions?

TEC runs six seven-week sessions during the year. Each seven-week session consists of seven one-hour lessons for each participant.

Do TEC Instructors have specialized training?

TEC Instructors are Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH) Certified and/or Mass licensed. TEC is a PATH Int’l Member Center and follows the guidelines established by PATH Intl.

What type of assistance will the rider have while riding?

The lessons at TEC are individualized to create a safe learning environment for each rider. Based on the rider’s ability, instructors determine what level of assistance is required.

What does a rider need to wear for their lesson?

Riding lessons are in an open arena.  Riders should wear long pants and a weather-appropriate clothing. Boots are strongly recommended.
